THANK YOU for answering this important Call to Care! Your life is surely richer by this experience. Not only were you a part of the rebuilding process of a devastated area; but more importantly, you were hope to many that have experienced hopelessness in the aftermath of the disaster.  How beautiful your feet must have looked to those you helped! How beautiful your feet must have looked to our Heavenly Father!

So now the trip is over. The paperwork is filled out and the bags are all unpacked. Now what? Following is a suggested list of ways to continue this mission experience:

  • SHARE YOUR STORY! One of the MOST important steps you can do now is share this story with others. Get your pictures printed. Tell the folks you work with about your trip. Tell the people at your church. Tell people at your schools. Tell ANYONE that will listen about your trip. By sharing your story, the people of the Disaster will not be forgotten.
  • PLAN A RETURN TRIP! Many volunteers return to continue helping with this effort. The door is ALWAYS open, and we will assist you in planning your NEXT trip.
  • GET OTHERS TO SCHEDULE A TRIP! Whether or not you can personally return,, PLEASE recruit and schedule at least ONE trip. Volunteers are vital to this effort to rebuild. Encourage your church, your work place, or your school to organize a trip. The website is a useful tool for sharing this mission with others (www.archindy.org).
  • STAY CONNECTED AND GET INVOLVED LOCALLY! Did you identify individual needs on your trip? For example, does Joe need new windows? Or does Henry need kitchen cabinets? Locally get folks to fund projects and help in that way. Donations can be made through the Parish you worked with for a particular homeowner or a specific item.

There is a wooden cross that was erected after Hurricane Katrina in front of The Catholic Volunteer Center in Waveland, MS that speaks volumes.

WE – as members of ONE body in Christ – CAN NOT FORGET THE PEOPLE OF ANY DISASTER!
